Anti-Naxal force brought in to kill man-eater of Bhimghad

Govt wants to get the tiger dead or alive before it strays into another village

Bengaluru: Even as the notorious ‘Bhimghad Ka Sher’ continues to give the slip to 250 hunters, wildlife veterans fear that the issue will be a huge setback for conservation in newer areas like the Bhimghad Wildlife Sanctuary.

The tiger was captured by the forest department and then released inside the Bhimghad Wildlife Sanctuary.

It entered several villages in the past week and was even seen on the campus of Visveswaraya Technological University, but forest officials failed to spot it. In a last-ditch effort, sharpshooters from the anti-Naxal squad have been pressed into service. Earlier, the objective was to catch the tiger without killing it.

But now the government just wants to get the tiger dead or alive before it strays into another village or kills any more people.
