When beauty cuts like a knife

Cosmetic surgeries are an open secret in Bollywood town
Mumbai: In the recently released pk, something that was discussed almost as much as the storyline and Aamir Khan’s performance, was leading lady Anushka Sharma’s pout. After an appearance on Koffee With Karan where the actress’ lips seemed visibly different from the way they were before, Anushka has been tackling the talk of her lip job.
She admitted to a national daily that she had got them enhanced, albeit as a temporary procedure for her role in Bombay Velvet. More recently, in an interview with another publication, Anushka boldly stated, “I didn’t think I had to inform the world before getting my lips enhanced. It’s my body and my decision”.
While Anushka has spoken openly about her cosmetic procedure, most actors and actresses in Bollywood (or Hollywood, for that matter) don’t. Still, going under the knife is a fairly common occurrence in B-town, and there are a whole host of cosmetic procedures that are popular among the stars.
They (allegedly) did it:
Shilpa Shetty reportedly changed her name to make her mark in the glamour industry. She, allegedly, also changed her nose. Shetty isn’t the only one several other actresses’ names come up every time cosmetic procedures are mentioned.
These include Sushmita Sen, Priyanka Chopra, Sreedevi, Mallika Sherawat, Minissha Lamba, Preity Zinta and many others. Most would, however, deny that their beauty is anything but natural.
Problem areas:
A recent survey shows that after laser treatment for hair reduction, volume fillers and botox injections, butt enhancements and skin tightening (of the hands) are all the rage. Here are the most popular treatments.
Some actresses and celebrities have fuller cheeks, which makes them look plump. The quest for a well-defined jaw makes them opt for a thread lift. This procedure instantly lifts the jaw, making the face look younger and slimmer.
It’s usually finished in one setting, at a cost of about Rs 20,000. Cosmetologists point to Bipasha Basu and Malaika Arora’s jawlines as a perfect example of a well-defined jaw, which can be achieved via thread lifts.
Your eyes reveal the truth about your lifestyle. A filler treatment can help fix under-eye pouches and uplift sunken eyes. It is availed by men and women and can you set back by Rs 25,000.
Liposuction has been around for ages, as a solution to knock off the fat around the tummy and butt. While it saves you from a grueling gym regime, it requires a few sittings and can lead to temporary side effects like sagging skin, hair loss.
Butt enhancements need 1-2 sittings and the effect lasts for up to one year, experts say. About a week’s recuperation is required after the procedure and you may have to schedule follow-ups every eight months.
Droopy brows, fine lines around the eyes and mouth can be treated with botox and fillers and are often opted for as well.
Model-actress Sherlyn Chopra tells us why she underwent
cosmetic
enhancements:
“I didn’t want to be a role model. I just wasn’t happy being flat-chested and my butt wasn’t impressive. I consulted a few qualified surgeons before undergoing the surgeries. I wanted to be in shape.
Yes, I’ve heard that butt enhancements are very popular now; I’ve been through the process. And of course, you need some downtime before you can resume your daily routine. But the end result is worth the effort and money.
My nose, butt, lips and washboard abs are my ‘investments’. One has to be cautious about the doctor and his credentials. I have seen some horrible results on others. It’s frightening! In an age when one has no time to work out and look after their body, everyone wants a quick-fix solution to problem areas.”
Dr Jitesh Shetty, celebrity cosmetologist, gives us the expert view:
“I have clients celebrities as well as laypersons with ages ranging from 22 to 70 who have different issues pertaining to their appearance. Apart from botox, thread (lifts), liposuction and hair transplant too have become a rage with men and women.
A skillful cosmetologist works with primarily three makeover materials: Botox, fillers and fine threads. Botox softens wrinkles and expression lines. Fillers do the work of volume restoration and enhancing contours of the cheeks, chin, lips and laugh lines. Fine thread contouring is the technique of semi-invasive face lifting by the use of bio degradable threads.
Today it is not necessary that you be a celebrity to opt for these cosmetic procedures. The possibilities in the hands of a gifted cosmetologist are never-ending. But you must choose one carefully or things can go horribly wrong.”
