Rajinikanth fan dies in theatre watching Lingaa
Coimbatore: A die-hard Rajnikant fan died while watching Rajini starrer Lingaa in a theatre on Trichy Road in Coimbatore on Thursday night. C.Rajendran, 55. was suffering from renal failure and was undergoing treatment, but insisted on watching superstar’s latest Lingaa. Police said Rajendran, who runs a grill making workshop in Perur, had gone to watch the night show of the movie at a theatre near collectorate.
After watching the first half of the movie, he munched on some snacks during the interval. However, as the second half of the movie was underway, he breathed his last.
“As he did not leave even half an hour after the end of the movie, the staff in the theatre assuming that he is fast asleep, tried to wake him up. But were shocked to find him lifeless in a sitting position,” police said.
The theatre staff rushed him to the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) in an ambulance at around 2.25 am. “However, the doctors declared that it was two hours since he died. We came to know his identity with the driving licence in his pocket,” police said.
The police informed about his death to his family members by dialling mobile number that he had written on the back of his son’s photo kept in his purse. Inquiries with some persons, who watched the movie, had revealed that Rajendran was alive till intermission.“He even had some snacks and did not show any signs of difficulty. But had died suddenly,” said the police. Investigations revealed that Rajendran suffered from renal failure and has been under treatment at a private hospital. He is survived by wife, a son and a daughter.
