Ethnic delicacies of café Kudumbasree a hit

KOCHI: With the city in a festive mood, the nine-day long Vasantholsavam, a dance, music and shopping festival organised by the District Tourism Promotion Council and the District Administration to mark New Year celebrations, is attracting a big crowd.
Comprising an attractive flower show, aqua show and food festival, the event at Jawaharlal Nehru stadium is attracting hundreds of visitors every day.
The food stalls of Café Kudumbasree with ethnic delicacies from all 14 districts attract many. The unique ‘Kizhi Biriyani’ and Mazhavil Biriyani, fish delicacies and homemade pickles have many takers.
Members of tribal groups from Wayanad and other districts have set up stalls offering handicrafts, curios and furniture made of bamboo and cane. The stalls also have organic products and specialty products from the forest.
“Café Kudumbasree food stalls are the big crowd pullers. On Xmas day, hundreds of families visited the stalls. Aqua show, agro festival and flower show, with a beautiful collection of floral treats, rare fishes and farm produce also attract visitors,” said Siddique, media coordinator of the event.
One of the star attractions of the show is the dwarf cow named Punganur kullan originally from Andhra Pradesh which is the world's smallest cattle breed. The cow with a height of only 70 centimeters is smaller than the Vechoor cow of Kerala.
The parade of colourful flowering plants beautifully arranged is simply a feast for the eyes and the miniature form of a metro train, a lion and an elephant made of flowers are the other attractions.
Cultural programmes are also being conducted in the evenings as part of the event, which will be on till December 31. The entry fee has been fixed at Rs 50 for adults and Rs 20 for children.
