Kerala high court extends stay on arrests in memorial torching case

The state sought time to file a statement in the case and pleaded for adjournment of the case

Kochi: Kerala High Court on Friday extended the stay on the arrest of three accused in the torching of P. Krishna Pillai memorial in Alappuzha.

The court will consider the case on January 5. Justice K. Ramakrishnan extended the stay of Deepu, Rajesh and Pramod, the third, fourth and fifth accused in the charge sheet submitted by the Crime Branch. The trio approached the court seeking anticipatory bail in the case.

The state sought time to file a statement in the case and pleaded for adjournment of the case. The petitioners argued that the Crime Branch report blaming group rivalry in CPM as the
reason for the vandalism against the monument was childish.

The court had observed that the accused should not be arrested till the disposal of the application for anticipatory bail. The anticipatory bail plea of Sabu, the second accused in the case, is also pending before the court.
