Assam violence: Tribal groups call for strike in West Bengal
Birpara, West Bengal: Several tribal groups on Saturday have called for shutdown in Birpara area of Alipurduar district of West Bengal following the attacks by the National Democratic Front of Bodoland which killed over 70 people.
Various groups such as All Assam Tea Tribes Student Association, Adivasi Chhatra Sangathan, Akhil Assam Bhojpuri Parishad, All Assam Minority Students' Union (AAMSU) and seven other groups had observed bandh in several areas of Assam even on Friday.
Earlier this week, NDFB militants had killed over 70 people in the Sonitpur, Kokrajhar and Chirang districts of Assam.
Following the attacks, Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju held a meeting with Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and other senior state officials and assured that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) will probe the case thoroughly.
