16 Rajasthan ministers receive IM’s email threat warning of attack on Republic Day

Police is investigating if the threat is real or whether the emails are a hoax

Jaipur: Sixteen ministers in the Vasundhara Raje government in Rajasthan have got threatening emails, purportedly from the Indian Mujahideen, warning them of terrorist attacks on Republic Day. The ministers, 10 of Cabinet rank and six ministers of state, got the threats on their official email accounts.

Police is investigating if the threat is real or whether the emails are a hoax to create panic.

Rajathan DGP Omendra Bhardwaj said, “We are looking into where the mail came from, and who sent it.” He added that the emails were being taken seriously, and security at sensitive places had been beefed up.

Mr Bhardwaj said the anti-terrorist squad of the state police has been asked to verify the authenticity of the emails. The police have also sought the help of Interpol.

The email, sent by someone claiming to be an Indian Mujahideen member, read, “We are Indian Mujahideen. You people be careful. We are going to give you a Big Bang surprise. You can do whatever you want but it is a challenge that we will carry out many bomb strikes in Rajasthan on January 26. Stop us if you can.”

Police said that no specific target was mentioned and the emails also did not specify what kind of attack would take place.
