‘I’m a stage baby’
After being crowned Miss Diva Universe 2014, Bengaluru girl Noyonita Lodh is headed for the Miss Universe pageant.“I had cherished an interest in beauty pageants since I was very young, although I did not share it with many people. When I did articulate it, my parents were extremely supportive. Since I started modelling four years ago, they’ve been by my side and enjoyed my journey with me, also because they’ve felt the passion I have for what I’m doing.
I’ve already had a bit of exposure and training for pageants, having participated in and won two by the time I was 18, and coming for Miss Diva Universe earlier this year was like a dream come true. Everything went perfectly and whatever I had envisioned materialised before my eyes,” she shares.Ask her how her preparations for Miss Universe are going and she replies with a chuckle, “Every day there’s a new aspect that we look into and that I need to work on. There’s a lot to do because none of us are perfect and there’s a lot of work to be done because at the end of the day, all the girls who come for the pageant are the best their country has to offer.
So, I’m at it!”Among all the things she’s working on while preparing, is there anything she’s fairly confident about being good at already? “I firmly believe that I’m really good at my ramp walk, which has been one of my strengths till now. At the Bengaluru pageant as well as at Miss Diva, I won the ‘Miss Rampwalk’ title, so that is something I’m very confident about,” she says.
So, is she ever a bundle of nerves before a pageant begins? “I’m a complete stage baby and I’m at my most confident when I’m on the stage. You might see me get all nervous about normal things but when I’m on stage, I’m in my element and thoroughly enjoy every moment there,” she adds.
Talking about a few stereotypes associated with the modelling world, she says, “I know that there is a perception that models aren’t intelligent. But then, people have a lot of notions about a lot of things.” While adding, “I think for most people when they meet someone who is intelligent enough and can hold a conversation, this misconception goes away. I hope that has happened with whoever has met me too.”
