Telangana State lukewarm on ‘Good Governance Day’
Hyderabad: Not much impact of the Centre’s ‘Good Governance Day’ was felt in the city on Thursday. It is the nation-wide initiative launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of former PM A.B. Vajpayee’s birthday.
The institutions functioning under the Central government remained closed on Thursday. Even the three Central universities located in the city remained closed for Christmas as most of them observed ‘Good Governance Day’ a day in advance on Wednesday. On the other hand, the state government offices remained closed with the Telangana government declaring two-day holiday for Christmas on December 25 and 26. “We observed ‘Good Governance Day’ on December 24 by conducting some programmes on the campus,” said Prof. Venkataramana of UoH. Similarly, PSU banks, offices of PSU oil marketing companies and major Central institutions like NTPC, Bhel, remained closed for Christmas. The event saw active participation only by leaders and cadres of BJP. BJP leader and Union minister Bandaru Dattatreya along with other party leaders participated in ‘Swachh Bharat’ programme in Musheerabad.
