Power position may ease with 600 MW plant in Tamil Nadu
State’s power demand hovers around 12,000 mw, facing a shortage of about 1000 mw
Chennai: In a major boost for the power-starved state, Coastal Energen Pvt Ltd has commenced commercial generation of power in its first 600-mega watt unit in Tuticorin and started supplying sustained power to the state grid.
According to a senior Tangedco official, the plant commenced commercial operation on December 22 and the state will get 558 MW from the thermal plant. Generation from the private power plant has begun at a time when the state’s power demand is set to go up in the coming weeks.
At present, the state’s power demand hovers around 12,000 mw, facing a shortage of about 1000 mw.
Coastal Energen is setting up two 600 mw units in Tuticorin at a total cost of Rs 7,600 crore.
