Hyderabad: A 21-year-old woman was openly stalked and harassed on the street by three men in Old Hayatnagar and when her brother protested the gang attacked them and their house. The three men attacked the woman with a belt and broke the windowpanes of her house. They also threatened to kill her family if they informed the police. The incident occurred on Wednesday night creating tension in the area.
Police said the trio named Raju, Srikanth and Santhosh, who live in the same colony, misbehaved with the woman while she was returning home late in the evening. "She is a beautician at a beauty clinic,” said inspector P. Venkateswarlu.
The woman alleged that the men harassed her and she had to tell her brother. However, when her brother went to ask about the incident the men became violent.
Enraged, the men came to the victim’s house and attacked the family. The woman said she was beaten with a belt and that her house was ransacked.
“They damaged the window panes. They also threatened the family,” said SI R. Srinivas Reddy.
No locals came forward to help them. “The men threatened that if the family complained to the police they will be killed,” said a source from old Hayathnagar.
The family alerted the police and lodged a complaint. Police claimed they reached the spot in minutes but the men were gone. The police has started a manhunt to nab the culprits.
Senior Cyberabad police officials said that if any woman is stalked they should call 100.
“The women must call 100 if they face eve teasers on the street and our teams will respond. We will soon have a dedicated line for the SHE team through which victims can get in touch with us,” said Ms R. Rama Rajeswari.
