2 die, 20 injured in 28-car pile-up on UP Expressway
Lucknow: At least two persons were killed and 20 others were injured in multi-vehicle collision after over 28 vehicles crashed on Yamuna Expressway on Wednesday due to dense fog conditions, police said.
Around 28 vehicles collided one after another between Greater Noida and Jewar area on the Yamuna Express Highway leading to a chain reaction crash. The wreckage was stretched for over a kilometre, police said.
The series of collision was triggered after a bus hit a car because of low visibility due to foggy conditions. Later a PAC truck and around 22 cars rammed into the two vehicles, police said.
While R.N. Sinha and A.K. Das died on the spot, 20 others were injured in the accident and have been rushed to hospital. Condition of three persons was stated to be critical, they said.
Meanwhile in another incident, six students of a primary school and two others died in a road accident on Tuesday night near Sikandra town in Agra district.
The accident took place on the national highway when the vehicle carrying the children collided with a tractor coming from the opposite direction.
The dense fog prevailing in the area had considerably reduced visibility.
The students, belonging to the Saraswati Shiksha Niketan, were returning from a trip to Mathura and Vrindavan. The drivers of both the vehicles also died on the spot.
All the bodies have been sent for post-mortem.
