Coimbatore: The shocking rape of the 10 and 11-year-old girls studying in Class V and VI in Pollachi triggered state-wide outrage, prompting the government to raid and shut down several unlicenced homes in Tamil Nadu. In a swift closure to the shocking case, the Mahila Court judge M.P.Subramaniam sentenced 23-year-old Veerasamy to two life imprisonments for having raped the two minor girls. Besides, he has been slapped with a 10-year prison term for trespassing into the home and another 20 years for procuring of the minor girl and 14 years for criminally intimidating the two girls.
The two life terms would run concurrently. In a significant judgement, the court also directed the TELC home to provide a compensation of Rs 2.5 lakh each to the rape victims within 30 days of receiving the copy of the judgement. The judge also found fault with the TELC managers, pastor Packianathan and Suresh Kumar, for having run the home without security and government recognition, which provided an opportunity for such elements to engage in such a ghastly crime.
Also, the court appointed a commissioner, K.Shanmuganathan to ensure the compensation benefits reached the two girls. The commissioner would submit a report on the two girls’ education and safety on March 31 every year till they reach 18 years of age. The two children should be given government jobs, the judge added.
