Chennai: In two different incidents in JJ Nagar and Pallikaranai, members of the public helped the police to nab criminals on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning respectively in the city. At JJ Nagar, a chain snatcher was caught while in Pallikaranai, two drunken thieves, who were on a mission to loot a hardware store, were nabbed.
At Perumbakkam main road near Pallikaranai, a few alert citizens helped the city police nab two burglars inside a hardware shop where they had dozed off after drinking the varnish stored there. Police said the two habitual offenders had broken into the hardware shop on Tuesday night. “But they slept off after drinking varnish. They had packed whatever they could in two bags and had taken Rs14,000 cash from the cash box.
As they slept, locals noticed that the shutter of the shop was open and alerted the police control room.“A patrol team nearest to the area was alerted and they rushed to the spot. They found the locks of the shutters broken open. When they went into the shop, they found two men sleeping inside,” a police officer said.
