Sexual assault on two migrant Rajasthani women and two children by a constable
Chennai: The Madras HC has transferred to the CB-CID the investigation into the alleged sexual assault on two migrant Rajasthani women and two children by a constable on October 8 at the police control room in Hosur.
A division bench, comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice M. Sathyanarayanan, directed the ADGP, CB-CID, to nominate an officer not below the rank of deputy superintendent of police to conduct the investigation. If need arises, the accused may be arrested and custodial interrogation may also be conducted and a report filed before the court.
The bench posted to January 6, further hearing of the PIL filed by U. Vasuki, national president of AIDWA, which sought transfer of the investigation to CB-CID and a compensation of Rs5 lakh each to the victims.
The bench said the counter affidavit has been perused and report of the sub-collector with the covering report of the collector produced before the court, which was evident of the conduct of the police officer.
An enquiry was proceeding against the same officer, the court was informed. The bench asked the government pleader to obstain instructions on the compensation the government can provide at this stage.
According to the petitioner, she learnt that on October 8 constable Vadivelu picked up the victims from Hosur bus stand. They were forced to strip and were molested. Similar abuse was meted out to the children.
