The Australian team selector Mark Waugh said, "Shane Watson will be assesed by medical staff on Wednesday morning after the allrounder was struck on the helmet in the MCG nets today (Tuesday)."

Watson was hit on the side of the head when he tried to duck against a short ball during Australia's practice session ahead of the third Test against India at Melbourne. Following the blow to Watson, a distraught looking James Pattinson too went back to the dressing room.

After Phillip Hughes’ freak accident that led to his death, the Australians have become sensitive about being hit by a bouncer.

Even during the first Test against India at Adelaide, when Virat Kohli was hit by a Mitchell Johnson bouncer, all Australians assembled to examine the Indian batsman.
