Traffic woes continue as flyover unfinished

The flyover will be completed by February 15

Hyderabad: With a part of the Toli Chowki road cordoned off for construction of a flyover and the road dug up at places, there is a lot of traffic congestion along this stretch.

“I leave an hour early in the morning to beat the rush, but in the evenings I am stuck in traffic for nearly half an hour on the Toli Chowki-Gachibowli road,” said Mohammad Asif, an engineering student from Muffakham Jah College of Engineering and Technology.

Talking about the status of the Toli Chowki flyover, GHMC superintending engineer Sridhar said, “The flyover will be completed by February 15.

We have razed three properties to widen the road near the Toli Chowki chowrasta. Around 12 more structures are to be acquired for demolition.”

Although GHMC officials have assured that construction of the flyover and road widening would be complete by February, residents aren’t hopeful about the traffic situation getting any better due to the lack of parking spaces in the area.

“Most of the commercial spaces don’t have parking areas. You can always find vehicles parked on the road in front of hotels like Rumaan, Shah Ghouse and Pista House.

The problem is due to illegal parking. Autorickshaw drivers, who don’t have proper auto stands, should also be given a proper solution” said Syed Aquib, software professional.

Speaking about the problem, SHO of Toli Chowki police station, K. Ramesh said, “As there are no paid parking spaces available, we can’t completely stop customers from parking in front of the shops.

But we step in when the parked vehicles create traffic congestion. We also warn the shopkeepers if too many vehicles are parked.” DCP A.V. Ranganaths said, “The lack of parking spaces is a problem that exists in many areas across the city.

We are trying to identify alternative spaces that can be used. Within a week or so, we will try to solve the problem in the Toli Chowki area.”
