IS takes custody of Indian recruit
New Delhi: Intelligence agencies have informed the Union government that one of the three Maharashtra youths, who had gone to Iraq to join the IS, has been detained by the militant outfit as he was trying to flee.
The three youths, Majeed, Shaheen Tanki, Aman Tandel, Fahad Sheikh, hailing from Kalyan town had gone along with Areeb Majeed to join the Islamic State militants. Majeed returned to India and was arrested by the NIA earlier this month.
The MHA is trying to verify the intelligence inputs and also get clarity on the identity of the youth detained by IS.
“We are trying to verify the inputs which become a matter of concern in the backdrop of reports that IS decides to execute those who try to defect or leave its ra-nks,” an official said.
According to reports, the four youths had left for Iraq in May on the pretext of a pilgrimage but all disappeared midway.
Majeed, 23, landed in Mumbai on November 28 following which he was detained by the security agencies, and later arrested. A case under sections of Unlawful Assembly Prev-ention Act has been registered against him.
