Puducherry government urged to take over Aurobindo Ashram
Puducherry: Delegates of some political parties and social outfits on Tuesday presented a joint memorandum to Chief Minister N Rangasamy seeking his intervention for takeover of Aurobindo Ashram by Puducherry government.
The controversies surrounding the institution had come to cause concern to the people of the Union Territory, Secretary of the Federation of People's Rights, G Sugumaran who led the delegation said in a release.
The recent incidents of suicide by two of the five sisters evicted from the Ashram with their mother following their eviction from the Ashram have triggered the demand for a speedy probe into the incidents by a retired judge of Madras High court, he said.
The Ashram should be taken over and administered by an IAS officer so that there would be no room for complaints against the Ashram.
Sugumaran said the Chief Minister assured the delegates that necessary steps would be taken to look into their pleas.
The delegation comprised representatives of Puducherry unit of the MDMK, Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam and Students Federation of Puducherry.
