Goud community demands apology

The actor was attacked near Film Nagar for offending the Goud community

Hyderabad: Members of the Goud community asked Tollywood comedy actor Y. Venu to withdraw his comments on a TV show that was aired last week and demanded an apology.

Venu had reportedly stated that his show was not meant to hurt anyone’s sentiments and that he did not intend to point to any particular community.

Venu later said that some people had invited him for an event and asked him to come to the film chambers to discuss it. “Nearly 100 people beat me. One of them openly admitted to beating me,” he said.

He said that the skit was not against any community or caste. “If there is anything offensive, the channel would not have not telecast it. How is a girl who sell bajjis related to any community,” he said.

Banjara Hills ACP D. Uday Kumar Reddy said the police had booked a case against attackers under IPC Sections 323 (punishment for causing hurt) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and had started an investigation. Nobody has been arrested so far.

The ACP said the actor's condition was stable, and that he had suffered no serious injuries.

Police said a case has been registered against Venu for causing hurt following a complaint from one Mr Rama Rao from the Goud community. "He alleged that Venu beat them up when they went to discuss the issue with him," said a police official.
