Dog that was shot by 26/11 terrorists dies

Sheru, the 14-year-old dog, was rescued by a journalist during the 26/11 terror attack

Mumbai: Sheru, the 14-year-old dog who was rescued by a journalist during the 26/11 terror attack, died on Saturday morning of cardiac arrest at Parel Animal hospital, Lower Parel.

The staff of the hospital mourned Sheru’s death and said that the dog had become an integral part of their lives during its 6-year stay in the hospital.

“I remember the day when Sheru was brought to the hospital. He was covered with a thick layer of blood as he had been shot in two places — his chest and leg. He was in immense pain and was writhing for a week. He took two months to recover completely from the wounds after which he was always around us, giving us his love and care,” said Dr Baburao Kadam, assistant secretary of the hospital.

According to the doctors, Sheru might have suffered from cardiac arrest due to his old age.

“For the last few days it was not keeping well. It was eating less and was staying put at wherever it was seated. But we did not know that it would leave us so early,” said Dr Kadam.

The doctor recollected how it stayed with the bullet in its lungs all these years.
