BJP chief Amit Shah hits out at Rahul Gandhi
Cong leader can’t see NDA good work with Italian spectacles, says Shah
Chennai: BJP chief Amit Shah on Saturday took potshots at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his criticism of PM Narendra Modi, saying the balancesheet of the 10-year UPA regime under the Congress was corruption and scams worth Rs 12 lakh crore.
“It is because of these scams that the people have voted for Narendra Modi and the BJP. The last six months saw the country back on track after a decade of decay and scams,” said Shah.
“He (Rahul Gandhi) has asked what did Modi do in six months. Modibhai has brought down inflation, ensured over 8 crore people open bank accounts, urged the release of fishermen who faced the noose in Sri Lanka besides facilitating employment to youth through the ‘Make in India’ concept,” Shah said in defence of Modi. “He also took Swachh Bharat to a new height. Rahulji cannot see all the good work because he is wearing Italian specs.”
Admitting that though the BJP is a big national party it is weak in the coastal states, Amit Shah asked party members to strive to strengthen the BJP at the grassroots for it to emerge as the largest party in Tamil Nadu. Asking the crowd to take out their mobiles and type the no. 18002662020, the BJP chief said, “Now all of you must send a missed call. You will receive a message. Reply to that message to become BJP members.” Many in the crowd responded by quickly dialing on their mobiles.
“The regime of Narendra Modi should be there for a long time to come and this could be achieved only by strengthening the BJP in the States of Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa,Bengal and Assam,” said Shah at his first public rally in TN after becoming the party chief. His speech was translated into Tamil by BJP national secretary H. Raja.
“I am really sorry that I am addressing you in Hindi. But soon I will speak to you in Tamil as I have started learning Tamil.”
