UP BJP aims at 1.5 crore new members

BJP leaders believe that the party can be the front-runner for power in the state polls

New Delhi: Going all out to consolidate the BJP’s vote bank in Uttar Pradesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Rajnath Singh will hold massive membership drives in their respective parliamentary constituencies of Varanasi and Lucknow on December 25, and 27 respectively.

Before the crucial 2017 polls in Uttar Pradesh, the party intends to recruit least 1.5 crore members from the state.

BJP leaders believe that the party can be the front-runner for power in the state polls as it has made significant inroads in the dalit and most backward community vote base, which were usually considered to be aligned with the Mayawati-led BSP.

However, there has also many saffron leaders feel that they might not have the advantage of a split in the Muslim votebank as was the case in the Lok Sabha polls. Hence it it is more than essential “to swell the party’s members” in the state.
