Andhra Pradesh fears Telangana State grip on Hyderabad Central University
Hyderabad: AP fears that if the Telangana government takes control of HCU, it could spell trouble for Seemandhra staff working in the university.
The TS government is objecting to the university’s official website which mentions location as “Hyderabad, AP.”
The TS government’s contends that all crucial posts at the HCU are occupied by staff from Seemandhra and Telangana got a raw deal in undivided AP.
“It’s not proper to compare HCU with other Central universities. It was established under Article 371(E) with a view to providing higher education opportunities to youth in Seemandhra and TS in 1974. Such special status is enjoyed by only a few universities like JNU and BHU,” explained Mr B. Vinod Kumar, TRS Lok Sabha member.
“For that reason, only AP jurisdiction was accorded to HCU, though it is a different issue that it was not implemented strictly. After bifurcation, the AP government is trying to accord all-India status to HCU with the malafide intention of denying higher education opportunities for TS youth, which we will not allow,” said Mr Kumar.
“What is the hurry for the university administration to seek all-India status now? Since the university is located in Telangana, its jurisdiction should automatically shift to Telangana. This shows the AP government has hatched a conspiracy to take away HCU from Telangana control,” he alleged.
The TS government has also been urging the Centre to appoint a Telangana academic as vice-chancellor.
“Not a single academic from Telangana was appointed as VC ever since the HCU was established more than four decades ago. We requested the Centre to appoint new VC from Telangana in the new state. We are also trying for reservations for Telangana youth,” said K. Kavita, TRS Lok Sabha member from Nizamabad.
