Telugu TV actor Venu of Jabardasth fame attacked in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: A small screen comedian was attacked on Sunday by a group of persons belonging to Goud community at Film Nagar here for allegedly indulging in "offensive portrayal" of their caste in a comedy show, police said.
"Comedian Venu was assaulted by members of a community, who accused him of offending their community and hurting their sentiments through his acts in a comedy show on a Telugu channel," ACP D Uday Kumar Reddy told PTI.
Police immediately rushed to the spot and rescued Venu by dispersing his attackers, he said, adding the artist later lodged a complaint with Banjara Hills police station.
A case for voluntarily causing hurt, wrongful restraint and criminal intimidation under relevant sections of IPC has been registered on the complaint of the actor.
The ACP said that some members of the community also lodged a complaint against Venu for "offending" their caste, following which a case was registered against him and organisers of the comedy show on television.
No one was taken into custody so far, he added.
