Alert customs officials seized worth over Rs 60 lakh
Chennai: Alert customs officials seized 2 kg of gold, worth over Rs 60 lakh, from a passenger arriving from Singapore at Chennai airport on Saturday morning. P. Nadham, 42, a resident of Chennai, was returning home after visiting the island nation on a tourist visa.
Stating that he had brought no dutiable goods, he began to walk out of the international terminal through the green channel. However, customs officials grew suspicious and searched him.
Two gold bars, weighing 1 kg each, were found concealed in his shoe soles. The gold was immediately seized and Nadham arrested. Upon enquiry, it came to light that Nadham was just a carrier, acting at the behest of an unknown person.
