Oh Lord! An app to pray it right
Kochi: The good lord taught them how to pray. And then came the app to remind them what to, and when to.
The Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church on Friday launched ‘Qleedo’, an omni-purpose mobile app that helps believers pray right. It guides them on the appropriate prayer indexed to the church calendar and even indicates the direction in which a believer should turn to while praying.
Coming loaded with the Bible in Malayalam and English and the two prescribed prayer books of the church, the app has a prayer for every occasion: the season, festival, and hour. It prominently features saints; it has scripture-based thoughts and study aids that are easy to find.
Qleeda, key in Syriac, works on Android and iOS platforms. A social feature provides secure connections with clergy and one another for prayer, support and advice.
Possibilities for charitable campaigning and disseminating faith-related materials will be integrated later. The next edition will feature a music jukebox with more than 2000 songs, Kurian George, CEO, Cerebtec Labs which developed the app, said.
The app comes in the wake of the believers in the US, as well as in other countries and even in Kerala, felt a disconnect with the church traditions and liturgy, Eldhos mar Theethose, president of MGSOSA, the youth ministry of the North American diocese of the church, said. “We hope the app will bring more people, especially the youth, to the way of spirituality.”
