Key Burdwan blast accused Sahanur Alam sent to 14-day judicial custody

He is alleged to have arranged money for the Indian modules of JMB

Guwahati: Key suspect in Burdwan blast case and alleged motivational trainer of terror group Jamaat-ul- Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) Sahanur Alam has been forwarded to 14 days judicial custody by a local court on Saturday.

Alam was produced in the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kamrup at the end of his 14 days police custody following his arrest on December 6. The CJM remanded him to judicial custody for 14 days.

Another person, Nur Zaman, arrested for alleged jihadi activities following the confessions of Sahanur was also produced in the court and the CJM remanded him in 14 days police custody.

Sahanur was arrested by Assam Police's Special Operation Unit from his relative's house at Larkuchi village under Mukalmua police station in Nalbari district "after getting an information from a local person", Assam Director General of Police Khagen Sarma had said.

One of the prime accused in the October 2 Burdwan blast case, Alam has so far been hiding at many places in Assam, Meghalaya and areas along the international border with Bangladesh, the DGP said.

Alam alias Doctor hails from Chatala village in Barpeta district and is alleged to have arranged money for the Indian modules of JMB.

National Investigation Agency (NIA) had declared a reward of Rs 5 lakh for anyone providing any information about him. Alam's wife Suzena Begum was also nabbed last month in Guwahati.

So far eleven persons, including Alam, his wife Suzena Begum and brother Zakaria Ali, have been arrested in connection with the Burdwan blast case.
