Ajmal Kasab testified against Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi
New Delhi: Evidence given by India to Pakistan included incriminating evidence of Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi the main planner was giving most of the directions to the terrorists from a control room on the outskirts of Karachi.
Sources said that technical investigations into the mobile and satellite phones being used by terrorists confirmed Lakhvi’s presence on the outskirts of Karachi.
Indian agencies also gave voice samples from the intercepts, requesting the Pakistani agencies to match them with that of Lakhvi. The voice spectrum test could have strengthened the FIA case in court. But not only did the Pakistani security agencies refuse to give Lakhvi’s voice samples to India, they didn’t even carry their own test.
This was one of the reasons why the FIA did not press conspiracy charges against Lakhvi even though India had asked it to do so. Even the demand for setting up a fast-track special court for Lakhvi’s case was turned down.
Another key piece of evidence was the confessional statement of Ajmal Kasab, the lone Pakistani terrorist who was caught during the Mumbai attack. Kasab, while identifying Lakhvi, had described him as “Lakhvi Chacha”.
Kasab even claimed that Lakhvi visited them at the camps where they were being trained for the 26/11 attacks. There were two such camps in Khata region and Muzaffarabad.
Kasab’s statement was corroborated by American David Coleman Headley, who had helped the LeT by carrying out reccy.
