Hyderabad Police to monitor cyber cafes

Move comes after an alert by DGP on increasing number of cyber crimes in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: As a counter measure to increasing incidents of cyber crime, the Telangana state government has issued an order mandating all cyber cafes to be listed with the police.

The move comes after an alert by the DGP on increasing number of cyber crimes in the city. As per the order, all cyber cafes will be given a unique registration number that can be used to trace back any activity from the cyber cafes.

As per the cyber crime police, a number of cases busted by the police were traced back to IP addresses of cyber cafes. In several cases, it was found that cyber cafes were being used by criminals for hacking, stalking, blackmailing, phishing and for financial frauds too.

“The director-general of police has stated that the commissioner of police, Hyderabad City, has informed that due to increasing incidents of cyber crimes in the city, there is a dire need for regulating the cyber cafes in the city and other places in the state,” stated the order.

The DGP has also requested the government to notify the commissioners of police and superintendents of police as registration agencies in the limits of the commissionerate and districts.
