Srinagar: An encounter broke out on Thursday between militants and security forces in Kupwara district of Kashmir, police said.
One militant was killed and a security personnel was injured during an encounter at Salkote village.
The security forces launched an operation in Kupwara on Thursday morning following information about presence of militants there, a police official said.
The ultras opened firing on the security forces positions triggering a gunbattle after the latter retaliated, the official said.
Militant’s identity has not been ascertained immediately.
