Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao opts for all-male Cabinet

This is perhaps the first Cabinet not to have women

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao opted to have an all-male Cabinet, ignoring women aspirants and inducting six ministers on Tuesday. The Cabinet has now reached its full level of 18.

This is perhaps the first Cabinet not to have women.

There are six women legislators in the TRS, including Deputy Speaker Padma Devender Reddy. He has reportedly promised some of them nominated posts.

Ms Devender Reddy said, “Yes, my name was doing the rounds last evening, but due to various reasons, I missed out. I have no regrets.

While this was noted with some surprise, there were some murmurs over inducting defectors while ignoring those who stood by the party.

The new ministers who were sworn in by Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan were Tummala Nageswara Rao, who is not a member of either House, and Mr Talasani Srinivas Yadav, who entered the TRS from the Telugu Desam, quit his Sanathnagar Assembly seat before the ceremony.

KTR keeps off fete, aide says he is ill

The absence of IT minister K.T. Rama Rao at the swearing in ceremony came as a surprise, amid rumours that he was upset over the induction of defectors. However, an aide said he had returned from Dubai early in the morning, and that he was not feeling too well.
