Kochi: An anonymous call warning of a bomb attack at the Cochin International Airport (CIAL) triggered panic but it eventually turned out to be a hoax with the cops tracing and arresting the caller within hours.
The accused was identified as Raju Abraham (54), a native of Piravom and a UD clerk with the Kolencherry Munsiff court.
Earlier the CIAL airport received the call at 6 am claiming that a person carrying a bomb would flew in at the airport with a bomb in his baggage.
“Immediately we convened a meet of the bomb threat assessment committee and bomb detection, disposal and quick response teams were deployed in and around the airport,” said ACK Nair, Airport Director.
Surveillance on passenger and cargo were intensified. The employees and the airlines staff too were monitored and also asked to report to the terminal manager upon finding any suspicious.
Meanwhile, the cops traced and arrested the accused from a house near Piravom. “The caller had given a phone number, which he claimed to be that of the person carrying the bomb.
The number was traced to the father of the Aluva Munsiff. The accused was earlier transferred from the Aluva court and he did the mischievous act to take revenge,” police said, adding that a case of threatening was lodged.
