Andhra Pradesh, Telangana tussle over state-level chairperson

TS and AP governments both appointed personnel as director-general of the NAC

Hyderabad: The tug of war for the chair in state-level corporations is likely to stir up fresh controversies between Telangana State and Andhra Pradesh. The Chief Ministers of both states have taken up the exercise to fill the nominated posts, including state-level corporations. The TS government claimed that the state-level corporations located in Hyderabad city belong to them.

The AP government claims to have a share in the corporations. If the AP government appoints chairpersons to the state-level corporations, it may result in a similar scenario as was in the case of the National Academy of Construction. TS and AP governments both appointed personnel as director-general of the NAC.

There were nearly 40 corporations in the undivided state and most of them are located in Hyderabad. Many senior party leaders and former MLAs are waiting for the post of corporation chairperson.

According to AP Reorganisation Act, state-level corporations and institutions have to be bifurcated between both states within a year. The Centre has appointed the Shila Bhide Committee for this. But the TS government has started appointing its own persons to the state-level institutions.

When the TS government appointed a director-general to the NAC, the AP government also appointed its roads and buildings department principal secretary as its director-general. When he went to NAC to take charge, TS employees obstructed him.

According to Telugu Desam sources, some names have been finalised for appointment as chairpersons. P.R. Mohan was selected for the chairperson of the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh. G. Koteswara Rao has been selected for the AP Vikalangula Corporation amongst others. But TS employees may not allow them to take charge and they may have to function from some other places or from the Secretariat.

AP chief secretary I.Y.R. Krishna Rao submitted a report to the Centre. He demanded that AP was either given a share in the corporations or provided with funds to set up their own corporations in AP.
