VELLORE: The post-mortem report of a girl who died on November 8 exposed an auto driver who had raped and beat her to death. The auto driver who had surrendered earlier was arrested a second time on Sunday morning when his plans to escape from the police dragnet failed. According to Ambur DSP Ganesan and inspector Madhiarasu, the girl, a second-year B.E. student of Vaniya mbadiPriyadarshini Engineering College and a resident of Minnur near Ambur, was kidnapped by Sakthivel (30), son of Raman and working as an auto driver, on November 7 when she refused to go with him.
According to sources, the girl was returning home from college with her hall ticket to appear for the second year engineering examination. Sakthivel had been stalking her for the last two years. According to sources, Sakthivel expressed his love for her when she was returning home on November 7, but became angry when she refused to go with him. He forcibly took the girl inside the defunct Tansi factory and raped her around 10.30 am. When she threatened to inform the police, he stranguled her with a rope and also beat her with a stick.
When she collapsed, he took her in his auto, hit a median on the Vaniyambadi-Minnur road and telephoned her family to say that she was injured in an accident. The girl died on November 9 at Vellore GH.Meanwhile, Sakthivel surrendered at the police station stating that he was responsible for the accident and was prepared to accept any punishment. But, 33 days after she died, the post-mortem report from Vellore GH revealed that the girl was raped and beaten up after being strangled. Following the autopsy report, the police took Sakthivel for interrogation, when he spilled the beans.
