J K Rowling guilty about killing Florean in ‘Harry Potter’ series

Rowling said that she does feel guilt about writing in the death of only one character

London: Author J K Rowling feels guilty about killing the little-known character in her ‘Harry Potter’ book series, named Florean Fortescue.
Rowling, 49, recently revealed on her publishing website, Pottermore that she had originally planned Florean to help Harry Potter in her final book ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’ but got him killed for no good reason, reported Daily Telegraph.
“I seemed to have him kidnapped and killed for no good reason. He is not the first wizard whom Voldemort murdered because he knew too much (or too little), but he is the only one I feel guilty about, because it was all my fault,” she said.
Florean ran an ice cream parlour where he meets Harry in the third novel, ‘Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban’ and gives him free ice creams.He is then mentioned in the sixth book, ‘Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince’. Rowling explains that his role became redundant when other characters became more helpful. The updates came as a part of Pottermore Christmas special event, in which 12 new surprises and pieces of writing will be uploaded on the site between December 12-23.
According to what Rowling wrote on Pottermore, Florean was supposed to help Harry Potter to achieve his final goal and defeat Voldemort in the final chapter of the series, The Deathly Hallows, however with time his character lost his place in the plot because other characters were introduced that were more helpful. Together with the story about Florean, Rowling wrote about some other little details in her wizarding world. She called it The Leaky Cauldron, a pub that is one of the places that connects the normal world with the wizarding world, to be more precise it allows witches and wizards to get to Diagon Alley which is somewhat of a reference to the Oxford Street in London.
