Coal ordinance bill passed in Lok Sabha
Mr Goyal said the bill would benefit the coal-producing states
New Delhi: The Lok Sabha on Friday passed the Coal Mines (Special Provisions) Bill that replaces an ordinance promulgated in October and provides for fresh auction of 204 coal blocks de-allocated by the SC.
Union coal minister Piyush Goyal, replying to the debate on the Bill, assured the Opposition that the Centre has no plans to privatise the sector. The Bill was passed by voice vote despite demands from some Opposition parties that the Bill be sent to a standing committee for closer scrutiny.
Mr Goyal said the bill would benefit the coal-producing states of Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Odisha and West Bengal.
