The officials said all these online cab services do not have permission from the transport department. The officials said they are looking at possible amendments to the Motor Vehicles Act.

“We do not want a repeat of the crime that took place in Delhi. As a precautionary measure and as per Centre’s advisory, our officials have been told to monitor all cab services, including online services, for violations. Action against violators will be initiated immediately,” said transport joint commissioner B. Venkateswarlu.

“Keeping in mind the recent recommendations made by the women’s safety committee, we are now focusing on all precautionary measures needed for women’s safety. Some of the recommendations like GPRS in cabs, driver’s details, displaying an illuminated board with ‘TAXI’ written on it, are to be implemented very soon," he added.

Meanwhile, officials are looking at amendments in the Motor Vehicle rules.
