Kiss: No case against Hanuman Sena
Kochi: Kozhikode City Police Commissioner A.V. George has claimed that there was no scope for registering a crime against Hanuman Sena activists for their role in the attack on the Kiss of Love protesters in Kozhikode.
He told this newspaper that the Hanuman Sena had taken up the matter just to gain popularity. “There is no scope for registering a crime against them for the attack,” he added.
The Hanuman Sena had stuck posters threatening to strip the kissing protesters in public. The Sena needed to establish its party in the state, he said.
The Meppadi police had registered a case in 2013 against two protesters, Shafeek and Divya. “The duo was arrested and released by the Meppadi police for attending a land struggle organised by the fringe left group CPI (ML) in 2013,” he said.
He also added that there was an intelligence input regarding mass recruitment being carried out by Maoists. However, the police have not registered a crime in this regard.
The police had no plans to register any case in connection with the episode in the future. The cops also refused to register a case for kissing in public which many claimed was an offence. No complaints have been registered under section 294 of IPC.
Under section 294 IPC, the police can book a person if he/she causes annoyance to others through obscene acts, a police source said.
At present, the cops have registered a case against the Hanuman Sena activists as well as the protesters under preventive detention (section 154 of CrPC).
