Fulfil promises, says Public Interest Litigation
PIL filed seeking assurances to TS, AP met
HYDERABAD: A Public Interest Litigation has been moved before the Supreme Court seeking a direction to the Union of India to forthwith implement the promises and assurances given to the people of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana at the time of bifurcation.
Dr Audimulapu Suresh, Santhanuthalapadu MLA, Sambaraju Padmanabha Rao, a farmer from Nalgonda district in Telangana state, and two others, moved the plea. They submitted that the Centre failed to protect the interests of both the states pertaining to electricity requirements of TS and financial and budgetary deficiency of AP. The Centre also failed to provide any support for establishing a capital for AP.
They said that from the date of formation, both CMs are either blaming each other, finding fault with the Centre or with the AP Reorganisation Act, and both governments are complaining about the absence of arbitration for the settlement of issues by any outside authority.
Citing several promises made by the UPA government for the people of both the states while passing the Bill, they contended that in reality, the Union of India is a permanent constitutional body and the policies and assurances made in Parliament are binding on the Centre despite change of political party power structure.
They said that the present NDA government also claimed that it will stand to protect both the states from the ravages of division.
