Kakinada Beach Festival to begin on 10th January 2015

The festival focuses on cultural promotion, traditional food and folk dances

Rajahmundry: The three-day Kakinada beach festival, showcasing the cultural grandeur of the coastal region, will begin from January 10 next year at Vakalapudi in East Godavari district of the state.

The three-day extravaganza will be celebrated in a grand manner with focus on cultural promotion, traditional food and folk dances, East Godavari district Collector Neetu Prasad said.

Last year, we had spent Rs 46 lakh in organising the festival. This time the state government has a budget of Rs 50 lakh, she said.

Elaborate arrangements have been made for over a lakh visitors expected to attend the festival.

Famous confectioneries in the district have also been invited to showcase various types sweets (especially Kakinada Kaja and Puthu Rekulu), seafood and local cuisine at food courts besides holding the longest 'dosa' competition, Prasad said.

Dog shows, baby shows, competitions for children on sports, essay writing, flower decoration will held during the event.

The festival will also see hoteliers competing with each other to break the record of Vijayawada Hotel Owners Association which prepared a 11.64-metre-long dosa and entered the Guinness Books last year, she said.

Replicas of various temples in the district along with Buddhist sculptures would be displayed to attract visitors.
