Faction leader killing: 17 people get life sentence
The sentence was pronounced after six years of trial
KURNOOL: The Adoni sessions court on Wednesday sentenced 17 people for life for the sensational murder of dreaded faction leader Kappatralla Venkatappa Naidu. The sentence was pronounced after six years of trial.
The police had filed cases against 48 people for the brutal attack and murder of 12 people, including Venkatappa Naidu, on May 17, 2008. Seventeen people were convicted.
The main among among those sentenced for life are: Maddileti Naidu, Varam Padmakka and Yogeswar Naidu. One of the accused, Diwakar Naidu, went underground and the police was unable to produce him in court.
Four people died during the trial. The court acquitted 26 people. The chief among those acquitted are Cherukulapati Narayana Reddy and Kotla Chakrapani Reddy.
According to the prosecution, when Venkatappanaidu and 11 others were travelling to Kodumuru from his village, a group attacked them resulting in the death of Venkatappa Naidu and 10 others. One person died of injuries later.
Kurnool SP Ravikrishna, who supervised security arrangements at the court and Kappatralla village, expressed hope that the verdict will be an eye-opener for those who get involved in faction fights in villages.
