Vikram Akula buys 26 per cent stake in start-up
Hyderabad: The poster boy of Indian microfinance industry and founder of SKS Microfinance, Vikram Akula has decided to make a comeback in the financial inclusion space after he was forced to quit the firm three years ago.Mr Akula has bought 26 per cent stake in Hyderabad-based start-up Vaya Finserv Pvt Ltd. and has joined the business correspondent firm as chairman.
“Now that my three-year non-compete period (with SKS) is over I was looking to get back to financial inclusion. I chose to join Vaya because it is focused on under-banked districts,” Mr Akula said. He, however, declined to give details about the amount he has invested to buy the stake. SKS Trust, which he runs, holds around 65 per cent in Vaya and the rest is owned by the employees.
