Youth Congress leader killed in shootout in Karnataka
Kalaburagi: A youth Congress leader was shot dead in broad daylight near Kotnoor village on the outskirts of the city on Tuesday morning.
According to police, the victim, Shabbir Ahmed (30) from Wadi town was coming to Kalaburagi on a two-wheeler when a red van with Maharashtra registration knocked him down. Then four people, who were travelling in the vehicle, attacked him with sharp weapons. They fired two rounds at him killing him on the spot.
Christopher, who was riding pillion, got injured and was admitted to a hospital. Four friends of Shabbir were also accompanying him in two two-wheelers. The police launched a chase for the attackers, but they managed to escape after leaving behind their vehicle. SP Amit Singh and other police officials visited the spot. IGP S K Mohammed said the attackers would be arrested soon.
Old enmity is said to be the reason behind the incident. The victim had opened fire at his rival Shamsher on February 26, injuring him grievously. Shabbir was arrested in this connection, but later released.
