Thrissur Archdiocese will launch research centre for infant mental health
Thrissur: Thrissur Archdiocese will launch a unique research centre for infant mental health disorders with modern facilities at Athani here.
Archbishop Mar Andrews Thazhath said here that the new venture, ‘Pope Paul Mercy Home Early Intervention and Research Centre’, would have the facility of sensory integration therapy and neurological processes. It will function close to Pope Paul Mercy Home, the training centre for mentally challenged people run by the Archdioces.
“Symptoms of mental retardation may appear at birth or later in childhood” says Fr. Joju Aloor, director, Pope Paul Mercy home. Some cases could be diagnosed before the child entered pre-school. These children typically had difficulties in communication as well as functional academic skills.
Archbishop Mar Andrews Thazhath will lay the foundation stone for the centre on Saturday.
