No consensus on Hyderabad Metro Rail realignment in old city
Hyderabad: Though the all-party meeting reached a consensus on the realignment of Metro Rail in front of the Assembly and Sultan Bazaar, major differences have cropped up as far as alignment in the old city is concerned. The old city realignment of 3.2 km was heavily debated.
Due to severe resistance from the locals in old city, the Hyderabad Metro Rail officers could not carry out the survey.
Former Speaker Suresh Reddy said, “The government had no information about the Metro Rail alignment in old city. When even the survey is not done, how can we discuss the issue?”
Due to lack of technical know-how, lack of pictures, structures and maps, there was too much of confusion to discuss the old city route.
MIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi said, “The proposed Metro route is longer, but the original route affected 126 properties, 40 mosques, 11 ashoorkhanas and 10 temples. This new route will help the old city.”
The new proposed route will affect only two structures and also make the Government Maternity Hospital and Nehru Zoological Park accessible.
