New faces to head Tamil Nadu BJP’s wings

Dr Tamilisai had “handpicked” several seniors
Chennai: As part of efforts to gear up for the 2016 Assembly election, BJP state president Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan has revamped the party nominating several new faces to head the various wings in the party.
Several among the new group who had enjoyed two terms along with former president Pon Radhakrishnan, who has been elevated as Union minister of state for road transport, highways and shipping following his victory in Lok Sabha elections, have been dropped.
According to sources in the party, Dr Tamilisai had “handpicked” several seniors and nominated a three-member team as observers and in-charge of districts, which were bunched based on their geographical location.
They are expected to strive for strengthening the party at grassroots and also work out a strategy to ensure victory in the elections. In the city, besides her, state vice president M. Chakravarthy and V. Dasarathan would be in-charge of South Chennai, Central Chennai and North Chennai.
Most of the seniors would be hectically touring the districts in the coming days to rev up the party. In addition to state wings, presidents of 22 cells like engineering, farmers, IT and fishermen, were replaced.
In June next year, the party would hold the inner elections to elect divisional, zonal and district presidents. “Presently, we are concentrating on membership drive so as to meet our president’s goal of registering about one crore members. Once this process is completed, the party would commence election related work,” a senior party leader said.
