Cops moot single window to face Maoists in tribal areas
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state police have suggested to the government to set-up a ‘single window’ system to ensure effective delivering of government’s tribal welfare schemes a key aspect to insulate tribal folks from being influenced by the Maoists.
Discontented tribal folks are often considered as fertile grounds for naxals to strengthen their bases and hence development of tribal areas and welfare of tribal community are key anti-naxal strategies.
According to home department sources, in the present system the series of welfare programmes for tribal folks are delivered through officers. In such a system, failure of any officer to deliver welfare measures could lead to discontent among tribal community. Tribal people find it difficult to get in touch with these officers.
In order to overcome this issue, the home department suggested a ‘single window’ model where one official will be authorized to deliver all welfare measures in a particular tribal area.
This would help as the tribals would have to contact one official for concerns pertaining to welfare schemes of government. The police officials made the suggestion on the basis of feed back they received from the tribal folks.
