Comprehensive plan for vector control
Kochi: Under attack for its failure to check the mosquito menace in the city, the city corporation has now chalked out a comprehensive action plan for vector control.
Besides deploying additional workers for fogging and spraying of drains and canals, Mayor Tony Chammany has instructed health inspectors to submit a work report to him on a regular basis to make sure they do their job.
The instructions were given at a meeting to draw up an action plan for containing the spread of mosquitoes in the city.
Officials present, who included health superintendent, Rajendran Nair, health inspectors and junior health inspectors , reviewed the current situation and the availability of workers, fogging machines and stock of chemicals for the mosquito control drive, which will be coordinated by health committee chairman, T.K Ashraf . He is also expected to follow up on the measures drawn up.
The corporation plans to appeal to non-governmental organisations and the public to cooperate with it in implementing the drive.
