Andhra Pradesh capital name game: Suggestions pour in
VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s announcement of naming a building in the new capital after former Telugu Desam leader and minister, late M.S.S. Koteswara Rao, has started a deluge of requests and demands along the same lines.
Mangalagiri MLA Alla Ramakrishna Reddy, who is opposing the land pooling, said that the government was looking at the capital city construction as its own party affair.
He demanded that the government announce Potti Sriramulu as the name for the capital. He said that it was a suitable name and would be a great way to honour his selfless sacrifice.
He added that before announcing M.S.S. Koteswara Rao’s name, the government should have pursued other names like Potti Sriramulu and N.G. Ranga. He said that in the future, people might see Singaporean names also.
Meanwhile, former PCC president and Jai Andhra movement leader Kakani Venkata Ratnam’s grandson, Kakani Vijay, has been demanding that the government names the capital after his grandfather.
He said that the late Venkataratnam had sacrificed his life for a separate AP and it has now become a reality. He asked the government to at least praise his services by naming one important structure in his name.
Meanwhile, a senior TD leader, who was close to leaders M.S.S. Koteswara Rao and Dhulipaala Veeraiah Chowdary, on condition of anonymity, said that he had plans to send a proposal regarding naming the agriculture wing’s administration building after Dhulipaala.
He said that Dhulipaala had extended his services sincerely for Telugu Desam’s Karshaka Parishad and the farmers as well.
Leaders of Pingali Swatchanda Seva Samastha, V. Ramu and K. Nageswara Rao are also readying to submit a representation to the government with the proposal of national flag designer Pingali Venkaiah’s name for one building in the capital.
